Don’t get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend. - Bruce Lee
What the heck is iReconnoiter anyway?
The name iReconnoiter came out from thin air whilst I was envisaging a title for this blog. I intended to base the name of my blog around the realms of “examining, exploring, observing”. Several minutes after, I ran out of brain juice, I punched my trusty thesaurus, and found this funky word, Reconnoiter, which means;
reconnoiter the area survey, make a reconnaissance of, explore; investigate, examine, scrutinize, inspect, observe, take a look at; patrol; informal check out, scope out, recon.
Hah! Perfect. Reconnoiter. Sounds “Frenchy”, but still full of punch. And now, where the “i” that precedes Reconnoiter comes from you may ask. Well, let’s just say it’s my desperate attempt to make it look and sound techie.
iReconnoiter is my second blog prior to my personal blog that I started way back when I was a teenager, penning down daily ramblings, musings and what not trivial matters, dabbling with blogskins and widgetries, like any usual teen would cook up.
My motive of iReconnoiter is to pen down some of my thoughts, mainly technology-related, that are going through my head and then sharing it with you. I’m no hardcore academic fella, and I usually write my post within 27 minutes.
I will always welcome contributions from you. Whenever you are interested, send me an email at jayson.ang@gmail.com
Background
I received my first personal computer when I was 9 years old, and would spend hours exploring the intricacies of the MS-DOS system and meddling with the computer operating system. When I was older, I fell in love with the Internet and would hog my school library computer terminal to explore the phenomenon of the virtual world. I often signed up as many enrichment courses as I could and was ecstatic to program and design my own HTML webpage at a very young age. These experiences instilled in me the desire to pursue my passion and excel for Information Technology.
After completing my GCE O Levels, I decided to gain exposure and devote my studies to the Information Technology field. Undergoing a Diploma in Engineering Informatics in Nanyang Polytechnic, sparked my deeper interest in IT. Yet I understand that the business world today is increasingly complex and dynamic. I wanted to immerse myself on the deployment methodologies to link technologies and business processes effectively and deliver business value. This complexity requires more holistic and practical education, and with that in mind, I yearned for more challenges, and more opportunities.
Upon obtaining my Diploma, I decided to enter the perpetually stimulating field of Business-IT. I wanted to pursue a business career after gaining a thorough mastery of the subject matter; therefore, I needed a university degree – which would enable me to explore my various interests and make a more informed decision about which specific discipline I want to study in depth.
In August 2006, I was thrilled when I clinched a golden opportunity to pursue my undergraduate studies in Singapore Management University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in School of Information Systems with Advanced Business Solutions as my second major – which provided me with solid introduction to the world of Business-IT.
The opportunities and growth spurred by the Financial Services Industry is immense. FSI is a large, strategically important, and rapidly growing sector in Singapore as well as in Asia. Hence, I enrolled into the Master of IT in Business (Financial Services) degree which is a sector focused degree where I will be trained in the processes, operations, technology solutions and related innovation strategies of banking and financial services. I will also be trained in essential business methodologies and management concepts required for assuming more senior levels of responsibility in the realms of banking related technology and operations. This programme provides me with necessary foundation for managing technology and operations across all segments of banking: retail, corporate, institutional and private.
